Warm up to the World Series of Poker
PITTSBURGH -- In preparation of Larry's entry into the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event tournament in July, I have set up this blog so I can let folks know what's going on once we get to Las Vegas.
We're scheduled to arrive on Sunday, July 7th. Larry will start playing on Monday the 8th (that will be the third Day One on the schedule -- more about how that works later). This is his first attempt at the WSOP Main Event. Up until now, he's played tournaments mostly at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, with a few here and there in Las Vegas over the past year and a half.
Prediction: Even though we've watched last year's tournament and we have an idea of how the Rio's convention center will look converted into a massive poker room, it will still be surreal. Last year (the 42nd annual WSOP Main Event, although I'm not sure it was always called that), there were 6,865 entrants and a prize pool of over $64 million.
So we don't know what will happen. He could play for 3 hours or 3 days. We might see celebrities, we might not. But I guarantee that we will see some characters. And I hope to find some interesting stories.
